Stray Words of Wisdom Sandwich Notrump
Suppose you pass and your LHO opens 1!c, which your partner passes and then your RHO bids a 1!s.
You are now in the "Sandwich" position... between to bidders.
If you hold a hand similar to this one you can double, right?
But f you hold a hand similar to this one, a double doesn't come close to describing it.
Players who use the Sandwich Notrump agreement will double with the first hand but they will bid 1NT with the second
hand, as it's a more descriptive call. The Sandwich Notrump bid always promises at least 5-5 in the two unbid suits.
When this agreement was first described it was used only by a passed hand, but many players today say it can be used
by an unpassed hand as well.

Interesting bridge stuff from District 22 ...
EDGAR and Three
I can no longer play bridge because of three people at the ACBL headquarters.
Three staff members reviewed some hands that I played on-line about five or six years ago, and they decided that I must have
cheated, but after they notified me, they would not discuss the hands with me nor tell me anything else. They
apparently only considered EDGAR, the software used to find and investigate unusual hands, but one of them did tell me that
EDGAR often has false positives when the hand is played by Precision players. They would not tell me how many
hands were involved nor did they ever ask for any explanations. Friends, I had already been convicted without any chance
to refute the decision.
But they never asked for any explanations
Instead, they dismissed me by telling me that I could pay $900 to apply for a hearing and that I would need at least one
advocate at $1000 a day, but two advocates were recommended. Also, I would have to fly to their headquarters and
present "evidence" to the three people who have already made up their minds.
Nope. Not gonna do it.
(Can you remember why you made a particular bid or lead five years ago?)
I don't know how much longer I will maintain this website, but shutdown is not eminent.

Pasadena-San Gabriel Unit 559
Our unit is one of nine in District 23 and we are sanctioned by the American Contract Bridge League.
We have an elected board of 12 members that meets monthly and is responsible for unit games, our Holiday party
and the annual John Waken sectional.
How to Find Our Virtual Club on the BBO Website
Our unit members can play in a virtual club game set up by Mojo and Paula...
When you log on, you are at the Home screen. Click on Competitive and then click on All Tournaments.
There's a Search Box at the top, on the right. Simply type in a few letters or numbers that will help identify
what you are looking for: 23 is sufficient for District 23, and 559 is enough for Unit 559.
You can use either the abbreviated Pasa or 559 for our virtual club.
Use this link if you would like to see the convention card used by the BBO robots.
